In the era of multi-tasking, Evolyn Brooks is a woman who is not afraid to hyphenate: writer-reporter-anchorwoman-producer-model-artist-obsessive organizer- beauty beauty product junkie-fashionista. With the launch of In My Solitude, an eco friendly home décor boutique, she adds the title of creative director and entrepreneur to her already versatile resume. Over the past ten years, Evolyn has earned a reputation as a creative mix master with innovative ideas that span multiple genres. Her passion for fashion and beauty made her the perfect producer to work on Bravo's, Shear Genius as well as supervise the startup of the nationally syndicated Tyra Banks show; where she earned an Emmy nomination. While overseeing the launch of the Fox home
design series, Design Invasion, Evolyn put her interior design skills to the test on a daily basis.
After satiating her love for pop culture at MTV, where she produced and hosted a highly acclaimed special, Evolyn nabbed an NAACP Image Award, a Cable Positive Award and was nominated for a Namic Vision Award for her work at BET Tonight with Ed Gordon. She also received a Prism Commendation award and was profiled by Ebony magazine for her fashion sense while serving as senior producer of the Queen Latifah Show.
Evolyn’s on camera career began in television news where thanks to an endless supply of hairspray, her bob rarely moved, but she was definitely the best-dressed journalist from the waist up. Evolyn worked as a reporter, producer and anchor in Cleveland and Toledo, Ohio, before moving to New York City to begin a new and exciting, second act as a producer. In her spare time in Los Angeles, she also works as a commercial actress and print model. She recently booked a national Ace hardware commercial and has worked as a print model for American Express, Intel, IBM and more.
While Evolyn has been sewing since she was a little girl and worked most of her adult life in television, her secret life as a “serial art class” attendee has finally paid off. She describes her current incarnation as proprietress of In My Solitude Boutique as “the creative fusion of everything I love doing. It’s exciting to execute an idea that reflects my values and also validates the creative lives of women.”
